In the southern part of the island, 82 km from the town of Rhodes, you can find the small amphitheatrically built village called Istrios. Istrios is one of the oldest villages in the island, probably named after ancient Istrios that the archaeologists believe was built in the area. It is located between pine forests, olive trees and vineyards with traditional small houses, composing a wonderful scenery. In the centre of the village there is a large, quiet square, welcoming and hosting local residents and visitors. The St Mercury church, the protector of Istrios, dominates in the square.
